Description
Florida, USA, from space. North is at top. Florida is a peninsula that juts out into the Caribbean Sea, part of the Atlantic Ocean (upper right). The large dark patch at centre is Lake Okeechobee. The city and suburbs of Miami (pale) are seen at the southeasten tip of the peninsula. The very light blue areas at lower right are shallow seas, part of the Bahama Bank region. Deep water channels (dark blue) cut between the shallow sand banks. This image was taken from the Space Shuttle Columbia during mission STS-052, which flew from 22nd October to 1st November 1992.
