Description
Ceramic drug jar, dating from the early nineteenth century. This piece is believed to be of Italian origin. Decorated jars such as this one were used to store medicines such as pills, syrups and oils. They would be displayed in apothecaries, and the elaborate decorations reflected the prosperity of the apothecary store.
