Description
Candle in a bell jar. The candle was recently sealed in the jar and is still burning, showing that there is still oxygen present. This is a recreation of an experiment by Joseph Priestley (1733-1804). Although Priestley's explanation of the phenomenon was incorrect he did later manage to isolate oxygen from air.
