Description
Distillation apparatus. Solution of water and ink being separated using a Liebig condenser. The Liebig condenser consists of a tube that is cooled by flowing water provided by pipes (orange). As the solution boils ion the flask any vapour that rises moves into the tube and is rapidly cooled. The vapour condenses and flows down the tube to a collecting beaker (bottom right). Water has a lower boiling point than ink. Therefore, if the solution is kept at or near 100C the water will distil into the condenser tube and be separated from the ink.
