Description
Copper pipe sections. Copper (Cu) is a transition metal element. It is a soft, dense, ductile and malleable metal. Unlike iron, copper does not rust away in damp exposed conditions, instead forming a protective layer (patina) of copper oxide that prevents further corrosion. Copper is also less brittle than iron, bending rather than snapping. For these reasons, copper is used in water pipes, drains, and roofing construction. It is also an excellent conductor, used extensively in electrical wiring. It has a melting point of 1084 degrees Celsius.
