Healthy Brain. Coloured computed tomography (CT) scan of a sagittal section of the human head showing a healthy brain. The face is seen in profile at the right. The cerebral hemisphere which is at upper centre, has a folded appearance. The cerebellum (centre left) is beneath the cerebral hemisphere. The brainstem (centre) connects the brain to the spinal cord. At lower centre there is a series square structures. These are the vertebrae of the spinal cord. In CT scanning X-rays are passed through a patient at several different angles. The information is translated by a compueer into a cross-sectional screen image.
