Description
MODEL RELEASED. ATLAS detector construction, CERN. Technician working on the barrel of the SCT (Semiconductor Tracker) detector, part of the ATLAS (A Toroidal LHC Apparatus) detector at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) particle accelerator at CERN, Geneva, Switzerland. It is a broad-range detector that measures all particles and physical processes that emerge during proton collisions within the LHC. The LHC is designed to create high energy substances, such as quark-gluon plasma, thought to exist very early in the universe's history. Photographed in November 2005.
