Description
William Henry Beveridge (1879-1963), British economist and social reformer. Beveridge is most famous for the Beveridge Report of 1942 that was the basis for the post-World War II British welfare state. His other works included 'Unemployment: A Problem of Industry' (1909), 'Planning Under Socialism' (1936), 'Full Employment in a Free Society' (1944), 'Pillars of Security' (1943), 'Power and Influence' (1953), and 'A Defence of Free Learning' (1959). He was made Knight Commander of the Order of the Bath (KCB, 1919), and created a baron (1946). This photograph is from the Bain News Service, one of the USA's earliest news picture libraries.
