Description
William Barclay Parsons (1859-1932), US civil engineer. Parsons was educated in New York City, at Columbia College and then Columbia's School of Mines. In the 1880s, he worked on the New York, Lake Erie and Western Railroad. His book 'An American Engineer in China' (1900) told of his work as Chief Surveyor planning railways in Hunan province, China. Parsons was also a member of several committees, including in 1904 the Isthmian Canal Commission (the Panama Canal). From 1905, he was Chief Engineer of the Cape Cod Canal (completed 1914). This photograph, by the Pach Brothers, dates from circa 1904.
