Description
Willem Einthoven (1860-1927), Dutch physician, physiologist and Nobel laureate, standing beside his string galvanometer in his laboratory. Einthoven was born in the Dutch East Indies (now Indonesia). His mother brought the family back to the Netherlands in 1870, four years after the death of Einthoven's father. Einthoven was awarded the 1924 Nobel Prize for Physiology or Medicine. The Nobel was awarded for Einthoven's invention of the electrocardiogram.
