Description
White's nitrous oxide inhaler, circa 1865. Nitrous oxide has been used for anaesthesia and pain relief since 1844. The first devices used in dentistry to administer the gas, known as nitrous oxide inhalers, were designed with the gas stored and breathed through a breathing bag made of rubber cloth, and with no addition of oxygen or air.
