Description
Water flea, polarization illumination light micrograph. Water fleas are small crustaceans commonly found in fresh water. They are filter feeders that ingest algae, protozoa or organic matter, and are a constituent of zooplankton. Note the developing embryos at bottom left. They are produced by parthenogenesis (female asexual reproduction). Magnification: x40 when printed 10 centimetres high.
