Description
Hawaii island in the North Pacific Ocean. The three main volcanoes of the island together with their lava flows (black) are here clearly visible: Mauna Kea (4205m) at upper centre, Mauna Loa (4169m) at centre left and Kilauea (1243m) at centre right. A delicate puff of steam is visible above Kilauea, although it is difficult to distinguish it from the clouds in the region. The image was taken from Space Shuttle Columbia on mission STS-52 (22 October-1 November 1992).
