Description
Uranus. Artwork of the gas giant planet Uranus partially eclipsing the Sun. Its rings are seen lit by the Sun at lower right. Uranus is the seventh planet out from the Sun, orbiting at a distance of around 2800 million kilometres. It takes 84 Earth years to complete one orbit. It has a diameter four times that of the Earth, and mainly comprises hydrogen and helium gas. Unlike the other planets, the equator of Uranus lies at 98 degrees to its orbit, so it rotates on its side. Its rings are very thin. Each ring is only a few kilometres wide and around 100 metres thick.
