Description
Tui (Prosthemadera novaeseelandiae), 18th century artwork. The tui is a songbird from New Zealand, part of the honeyeater family. This specimen was observed in the Dusky Sound region of New Zealand. This drawing is one of many made by naturalists during the voyages made by the British explorer Captain James Cook (1728-1779). This artwork was published in Cook's account of his second voyage (1772-75): 'A voyage towards the South Pole and round the World' (1777).
