Description
Doctor treating a tuberculosis patient by inducing a pneumothorax (collapsed lung). Nitrogen or air is being introduced to the patient's chest cavity to compress the lungs. This treatment was developed after it was noted that tuberculosis patient's that suffered a pneumothorax often showed improvement. This treatment became less common with the discovery of antibiotics. Photographed in 1941.
