Description
Truffle fungus. Light micrograph of a section through tissue from the fruiting body (truffle) of a Tuber rufum fungus. Inside the truffle fruiting body there is a reticulum of hyphae (blue) that mingle with ascospores (brown) to form a gleba. The truffle body is found under the earth in woodland habitat and dug up and eaten by man, dogs, boars, etc., which disperse them through their faeces. Magnification: x7 when printed 10 centimetres wide.
