Tourists visiting General Sherman tree. Volunteer park ranger in Sequoia National Park, California, USA, talking to visitors about the General Sherman tree, the world's largest living tree. This Giant Sequoia (Sequoiadendron giganteum) is 83.8 metres tall, has a spread of 32.5 metres and a girth of 31.3 metres. Giant Sequoias grow at altitudes of 1400 to 2400 metres on the western slopes of the Sierra Nevada mountains of California. Thought to live for up to 4000 years, the larger specimens weigh over 1000 tonnes. Photographed in June.
