Telescope mount casting. 19th-century illustration of the casting from molten metal of part of the mount for the Tarn Bank Observatory telescope, Cumbria, UK. This casting took place at Lowca Ironworks, Whitehaven, Cumbria, UK, on 27 October 1858. Engraved from a drawing by Caroline Mary Smyth, daughter of British astronomer William Henry Smyth (1788-1865). Artwork from W. H. Smyth's 'The Cycle of Celestial Objects continued at the Hartwell Observatory to 1859' (1860).
