Description
Pork tapeworm proglottid. Light micrograph of a section through a mature proglottid section of a pork tapeworm (Taenia solium). This animal is hermaphrodite, and this is the female area. The progottid shows branches of the uterus containing masses of eggs. Tapeworms are intestinal parasites that reproduce using these proglottid structures. The older proglottids turn into bags of eggs, which fall off in the intestines and are carried out with the faeces. Magnification: x36 when printed at 10 centimetres high.
