Description
Sun and Moon at vernal equinox. Composite sequence of the Moon and Sun in the sky above the horizon at the time of the vernal equinox. Also called the March or spring equinox, this is one of two points in the calendar (the equinoxes) when the Earth's tilt is aligned so that the day and night are the same length. The Moon's orbit is slightly offset from the ecliptic, so its orbit and that of the Sun are slightly separated in the sky, as shown here. Photographed on 20 March 2008.
