Description
Woman stroke patient receiving occupational therapy, practising placing different sized & coloured pegs into a board to improve her coordination & muscle control. The weakness & paralysis of stroke are due to brain damage resulting from an interruption in blood supply, caused by an obstruction in or rupture of an artery. Damage to a cerebral hemisphere produces symptoms down the opposite side of the body; severe strokes are fatal. Occupational therapy aims to restore strength and function to the affected side of the body by the undertaking of specific physical tasks according to the individual's capabilities.
