Description
Storm on Saturn, Cassini images. These images show a huge storm, the largest and most intense yet observed, that developed over weeks in Saturn's upper hemisphere until it circled the entire planet (C011/1607). The two lower image mosaics show swirling clouds stretching around Saturn for over 300,000 kilometres. The upper two images are close-ups (from the inset areas marked with white brackets). From top to bottom, the storm is around 15,000 kilometres across. The first image mosaic was obtained in near-infrared by the orbiting Cassini spacecraft on 26 February 2011, and the second one a Saturn day (11 hours) later.
