Description
Stent in the abdominal aorta. Coloured 3D computed tomography (CT) scan of a stent in the abdominal aorta and iliac arteries of a 72-year-old man. This frontal view shows the aorta, the body's main artery, dividing into the two iliac arteries (bottom) that supply the legs. The stent is a double-woven wire mesh, which has been implanted to treat an aneurysm. An aneurysm is a weakening of the artery walls that leads to swelling and, potentially, to a rupture, which would be fatal in the aorta and iliac arteries.
