Description
Resin cast of the blood vessels of the human heart and lung, viewed from the front. Red resin is used to denote the passage of oxygenated blood from the lung to the heart and out to the rest of the body: the aortic arch of the heart (large red vessel at centre right of image) pumps oxygentated blood to the body. Veins carrying deoxygenated blood to the lungs appear blue: larger veins entering the heart appear black. The casts were made by injecting liquid resin into the relevant vessels, allowing to set, & burning off any extraneous tissue with sulphuric acid: finally, the fine unwanted detail was chipped away by hand.
