Description
Starbirth in M83 galactic arm, Hubble Space Telescope (HST) image. This spiral galaxy is 14.7 million light years from Earth, in the constellation of Hydra. These stars are near the galaxy's core, which is at far right (white region). New stars, surrounded by bubbles of glowing hydrogen gas (red), are forming in clusters along the dark dust lanes. As the stellar winds blow the gas away, clusters of young blue stars emerge. Many supernova remnants are also seen in this image. Image obtained in August 2009 by Hubble's Wide Field Camera 3 (WFC3).
