Description
Stanton and Anthony, US suffragettes. Seated at left is US suffragette Elizabeth Cady Stanton (1815-1902), with fellow US suffragette Susan Brownell Anthony (1820-1906) standing at right. Stanton was president of the National Woman Suffrage Association from 1892 until 1900. She also challenged religious orthodoxy in 'The Woman's Bible' (1895 and 1898). Anthony was Stanton's life-long friend and co-activist and reformer. Together, they founded numerous organisations on subjects ranging from temperance to women's rights. They started and helped write the 1880s volumes of 'History of Woman Suffrage'. Photographed between 1880 and 1902.
