Description
Spider gossamer threads at sunrise. This autumn view shows spider gossamer threads glistening in the early morning light and coating vegetation on a marshy river plain. This is the plain of the River Taw, Devon, UK, which had flooded overnight. As water drained away from the top of the vegetation, hundreds of web spiders (Araneus diadematus) and money spiders (Linyphiidae) produced their silk gossamers. Many money spiders were web ballooning to new locations. Others made silk tents on the vegetation, with a mist or dew condensing on the silk threads. Photographed in October.
