Description
Southern hemisphere night sky, photographed from a park in Sydney, Australia. The two bright stars near the bottom are alpha Centauri (bottom) and beta Centauri. Both are 1st magnitude stars & amongst the closest of our stellar neighbours at a distance of a little over 4 light years. They point towards the Southern Cross, the 4 stars which form a diamond with the red giant star, gamma Crucis, showing yellow at the right end of the diamond.
