Description
South-eastern Micronesia, satellite image. North is at top. Water is blue, vegetation is green, and shallow sand banks and coral atolls are light blue and white. These islands are in the south-eastern part of the region of the Pacific Ocean known as Micronesia. The Marshall Islands are at upper centre, while the islands at lower right are part of Kiribati. The entire region is sparsely populated, with the low-lying atolls threatened by climate change. The area shown here is hundreds of kilometres across. Image data obtained by the Landsat 5 and Landsat 7 satellites.
