Description
Panoramic aerial shot of the entrance to Kanton (Canton) Atoll in the Phoenix islands of Kiribati. The atoll is the only inhabited island in the Phoenix group. The entrance was dredged by US forces piling it up to form two parallel walls now heavily nested by terns. The island was occupied by around 1, 200 military personnel during WW2 due to a long runway being built (top of picture in distance).
