Description
Solar park near the Nile in Egypt, satellite image. Benban Solar Park (lower left) is in Aswan province, about 650 kilometres south of Cairo. When finished, it will cover about 37 square kilometres with more than 7 million photovoltaic solar panels. It is Egypt’s first utility-scale solar power facility, and it is projected to have the capacity to produce 1.8 gigawatts of electricity. At right is the River Nile and the towns of Kom Ombo (centre) and Daraw (lower centre). Image obtained by the Operational Land Imager (OLI) on the Landsat 8 satellite on 9 October 2019, when the solar park was about 80 percent complete.
