Description
Siemens dynamo. Historical illustration of a dynamo produced by the company founded by German inventor and industrialist Werner von Siemens (1816-1892). Siemens produced his first dynamo in 1867. Dynamos are devices used to convert rotary motion into electrical power. This is achieved by rotating magnets around wires, and generates electric current. This one produces alternating current and has an exciter component. Artwork from 'Electricite' (1911) by Max de Nansouty, part of the 'Les merveilles de la science' series of 1867-1891 by Louis Figuier.
