Description
Sea whips. Several sea whips (Ctenocella sp.) on a rocky reef. These are formed by colonial animals related to corals. Tiny polyps filter plankton from the water using their tentacles. Sea whips avoid predation as their hard exterior contains chemicals which are unpalatable to fish. The large dark shape to the lower right of the Sun is a large school of fish.
