Description
Sea anemone. Large sea anemone (Stichodactyla sp.) on a sandy seabed. Numerous small anemone fish are seen around the anemone. These organisms have a symbiotic (mutually beneficial) relationship. The fish hide from predators, mate and lay their eggs amongst the poisonous tentacles of the anemone, to which they are immune. In return, they clean the anemone of parasites and it feeds on scraps of food which they discard. This is one of the largest sea anemones, reaching a diameter of over two metres in some cases.
