Description
Scoliosis of the spine. Coloured X-ray showing scoliosis, the lateral (sideways) curvature of the spine. Typically beginning in childhood, it progresses to an S-shaped spine. The condition may result from a congenital abnormality of the spine, polio, arthritis, or due to one leg being shorter than the other. Progressive scoliosis may need spinal immobilization with a brace, or surgery.
