Description
Saturn's rings, coloured Cassini infrared image. The icy particles in the rings are blue, with the sunlit planet surface seen behind them as green and yellow (top right). The rings' shadows on Saturn's surface are red. The streaks of green and red within the blue rings are gaps. The gap between the B ring (bottom left) and the A ring (centre) is the Cassini Division (lower left). The fine gap within the A ring is the Encke Gap (upper right). This mosaic image was created using data from the Visual and Infrared Mapping Spectrometer on board the Cassini spacecraft on 16th August 2006 and was obtained at a distance of 254,000 kilometres from Saturn.
