Description
Saturn's magnetosphere. Illustration of the planet Saturn (centre) and its magnetosphere (magnetic field lines shown) shielding it from cosmic radiation and the solar wind. The grey background mesh represents the boundary of the magnetosphere. Most of the charged particles from the Sun are diverted around the planet. Some are trapped and guided by the planet's magnetic field towards the polar regions, where they impact the planet's atmosphere and cause aurorae. Several of Saturn's moons are shown: Tethys, Enceladus, Mimas, Rhea, Dione, and Titan.
