Description
Saturn, Cassini and Titan, artwork. Saturn (120,000 kilometres across) is a ringed gas giant planet. The Cassini spacecraft has been orbiting Saturn since 2004. Titan (5150 kilometres across), Saturn's largest moon, orbits at a distance of 1.2 million kilometres. Titan has a thick nitrogen atmosphere with an orange haze. The cutaway section shows the composition of Titan's interior: ice (grey), water (blue), and a rock-ice mixture (black-grey). The ice-water layers extend downwards for around 500 kilometres from the surface. These results, based on data about Titan's gravity field from the Cassini spacecraft, were published in 2010.
