Description
Salt polygons. Close-up of the polygonal shapes formed in the salt flats of the Mojave Desert, California, USA. Salt flats occur when extreme high temperatures cause the water from a lake to evaporate more quickly than it is replaced by rain. The water evaporates completely, leaving behind deposits of the mineral salts that were dissolved in it.
