Description
Saharan elephant carvings. Desert rock carvings of elephants and hunters in what is now a desert region of the Sahara. These are examples of carvings from the bubalus (hunter or wild fauna) period. They date from around 9560 BC to 6000 BC when the climate of the Sahara was much wetter, supporting savannah vegetation. The engravings from this period typically depict large animals, some now extinct. Photographed in Tadrart, Tassili National Park, Algeria.
