Description
Rotifer colony. Light micrograph of a colony of Conochilus hippocrepis rotifer worms. The colony is composed of between 50 and 100 individual worms, attached at the base of their feet, with their bodies radiating outwards from a common centre. Hair-like cilia on the head (white) of each worm catch food particles suspended in the water and pass them to the mouth. The colony is free-swimming: coordinated beating of the cilia propels it through the water. Magnification unknown.
