Description
Roentgenium (Rg). Diagram of the nuclear composition, electron configuration, chemical data, and valence (outer electron) orbitals of an atom of roentgenium-280 (atomic number: 111), an isotope of this radioactive element. The nucleus consists of 111 protons (red) and 169 neutrons (orange). 111 electrons (white) successively occupy available electron shells (rings). Named after Wilhelm Roentgen and first synthesised in 1994, this element is a transactinide of unknown properties in group 11, period 7, and the d-block of the periodic table. Roentgenium-280 has a half-life of 3.6 seconds.
