Description
Roderick Oliver Redman (1905-1975), British astronomer. Educated at Cambridge University, Redman's career started in Canada, when he worked at the Dominion Astrophysical Observatory from 1928. In 1931, he returned to Cambridge, spending eight years there. In 1937, he moved to the Radcliffe Observatory at Oxford, and then worked in South Africa for eight years. After the Second World War, he was Professor of Astrophysics and Director of the Solar Physics Observatory at the University of Cambridge for 25 years (1947-1970), where he directed the research and worked to modernize the equipment. His own field of research was solar eclipses. He served as President of the Royal Astronomical Society from 1959 to 1961.
