Description
Red-rumped agouti (Dasyprocta leporina) foraging for food. This large rodent inhabits the forests and savannahs of northern South America, where it feeds on a variety of foods, including fruit, seeds, grass and roots. It spends much of its life underground in a complex series of chambers and tunnels, which typically lead directly to sources of food. The agouti can reach over 60 centimetres in length, and is a favourite prey animal for a variety of carnivores. Photographed in Trinidad.
