Description
Red flour beetle genome research. Molecular biologist and entomologist reviewing the genomic map of the red flour beetle (Tribolium castaneum). This genome was published in 2008. The Red Flour Beetle Genome Project was in part funded by the Agricultural Research Service (ARS) of the US Department of Agriculture. The red flour beetle is an agricultural pest that attacks stored grain products such as flour and cereals, causing loss and damage. It was the first key agricultural pest to have its genome fully sequenced. Photographed in the USA.
