Description
The body of the Rapid Cycling Bubble Chamber (RCBC) during its installation at CERN, the European particle physics laboratory outside Geneva, in 1980. The 250 litre chamber, designed & built at the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory in England, is designed to operate at up to 30 expansions per second - some 30 times faster than conventional bubble chambers. It forms part of CERN's European Hybrid Spectrometer, a large assembly that also includes electronic detectors to help track & identify particles produced in high-energy collisions.
