Description
Raman spectroscopy. Researcher using a Raman spectroscope, a device that uses a laser to analyse the structure and properties of materials on the nanometre scale. This instrument has been modified to have a spatial resolution ten times greater than standard Raman spectroscopes. Researchers use this method, known as TERS (tip- enhanced Raman spectroscopy), to analyse single organic and inorganic nanoparticles as well as the wider surface topography (shape) and composition of the material. Photographed at the National Physical Laboratory in Teddington, UK.
