Description
Illustration of the red dwarf star Proxima Centauri viewed from the surface of the planet Proxima b. Proxima Centauri is the closest star to the Sun. It lies 4.25 light years from Earth in the constellation Centaurus. Proxima b orbits in the habitable zone around Proxima Centauri, where the temperature may be suitable for liquid water to exist on its surface. The first signs of Proxima b were seen in 2013, but its presence wasn't confirmed until the 24th August 2016. The double star Alpha Centauri AB is also seen at upper-right of Proxima Centauri.
