Description
Prehistoric bison leg bone. Fragment of a bison's humerus (upper foreleg bone), which was found at the palaeolithic (Stone Age) archaeological site La Pineta. The oldest part of the site found so far (as of 2008) is believed to date back to 600,000 BP (before present), in the Pleistocene epoch. This is before modern man (Homo sapiens) existed. Many animal bones at this site are thought to have been left behind by hominids (human ancestors). La Pineta is located near Isernia, in the Molise region of southern Italy.
